Increase in Revs before power delivered to wheels

Hi there,

I'm new here and this is also my first post. I hear these places are full of people with massive amounts of good information.

I've a 2003 Sprinter 311CDi MWB which has recently developed a problem.

When the revs are around 2k (but anywhere between 2k and 3k ish) and attempting to accelerate, the van's wheels don't receive the power straight away.
Instead, the revs increase by 500 - 750 before something bites and the wheels finally get the drive. (Causing the revs to go back down to their normal level).

It's as though there's something slipping, like the diff, or a belt, or the clutch isn't properly dis-engaging or something like that.

I was wondering if anyone on here had a similar or exactly the same problem with their sprinter and could enlighten me on what it might be?
Not being the most mechanically aware of how a vehicle works, I'd rather not go to a garage and have a wild goose chase of trying to find out what this might be and financially suffering as a result.

Many thanks,

Simon.

Hi Simon and welcome, this must be a clutch issue as it is the only variable thing in the drive chain

:) well I have a NEW clutch pulley which I got from ebay for £30 a month and a bit ago. I had some knocking coming from the engine bay and a friend of mine who has had a sprinter a lot longer than me thought it was the pulley knocking.

So is the clutch like a sealed unit? With a pulley and belt system inside?

I thought it might be something to do with the clutch. I have a "Mr. Clutch Autocentre" near my work. Maybe they can help...

Thanks for the replies so far! (and the welcome!)

I believe the pulley to which you refer is on the alternator, and quite unrelated to your current problem.

Hi all,

just wanted to say thanks for your help in helping me.
KT's going in for a Clutch change (a "genuine sachs clutch kit and a "Luk" clutch cylinder) tomorrow morning. I've also gotten her a fresh dual mass flywheel too.

Got a brand new and boxed merc flywheel for £250! (don't you just love ebay)

I've also got a used flywheel which is in good condition if anyone needs one (I bought this as a spare for me but should anyone need it, I believe it's in good condition...)

I'm looking forward to proper merc power once again!

Fitting Prices I found from 2 places were...

Mr. Clutch (Shoreham by Sea) --------------- £360+Vat
Tullets Plant and Commercial (Durrington) ----- £180+Vat

Hmmm guess which one I went for...!

Both in West Sussex.

Apologies in advance if posting prices on here is wrong. Thought it would be useful.

Oh, I'm also getting my heating fixed! - control cable keeps snapping. argh!

So yeah, thanks guys! :)

This is the advantage of a forum, lots of people and lots of idea's, better than sitting at home brooding
Your purchases sound as though were good buys
