Independent Specialist in NW London - Head gasket?

Oh no, a nasty surprise today when I lifted the bonnet to check fluid levels.........a worrying layer of oil in the coolent expansion tank.

Almost certain that a head gasket is required - I believe this is a weakness on M104 engines (2800cc 24 valve). It's done about 75,000 miles, 10,000 since I bought it last March and I don't believe it's been changed before.

Otherwise the engine is running really well but I'm fully aware that this needs sorting pronto.

Can anyone recommend a GOOD independent specialist with whom to entrust my car - preferably in Wembley/Harrow/Watford area where I work.

It's due for a service and MOT anyway at the end of the month so am preparing for a big bill - and will no doubt get a serious ear-bending from "she who must be obeyed" :cry:

i know independant mercedes specialist in N London called Merc Care if you are interested. Just down the road a bit from junction 23 of the m25.

someone also mentioned an independant garage in Hanger lane i think wembley area in a posting i looked at a while ago?

I've done a little research here tonight - and George Fraser's name keeps coming up!

Is his set-up as good as everyone says?

I'll try phoning them tomorrow.

Yes it is!

Its a shame to say that nowadays its hard to find an honest, skilled mechanic. My experience of George Frasers breaks the mould and I reccomend them highly.

Sorry to hear about your pride and joy

I too have been going to George Fraser for ages with my MB's (my previous car was a 190E) and he has been brilliant. He's based just opposite Alperton tube station so is very close to where you are.

Let us know how your car gets on with who ever you decide to go to.
