There comes a point where provided it covers its costs, it's an enjoyable lifestyle job/hobby.Is there a market for such a service for nearer to home - or vice versa, I wonder?

This NZ video was what really sold me on the idea fo getting an SL. My brother is coming over from NZ in the summer; perhaps he could bring me on over as well!

Thats a nice SL, lots of options, upgraded COMAND and low mileage. The price doesn't look that expensive if the car is as good as it appears to be and you get a warranty.

It does look good, low mileage and as Malcolm says as well equipped as you could get really....
Just needs that AMG badge removed....

Thanks Nicholas, I have just spent a good 2 hours viewing different films concerning the SL and some much modified ones  Of course we are not biased
The New Zealand new cars are very much in superb condition and 9 times out of 10 will have no signs of rust. It can work out cheaper to import a very low mileage car, but with the shipping, insurance, import duties and VAT these can add up.

That one is one of the preferred ones with the up graded command, nice car and as said well loaded. But again why can't you do postcodes with the older commands, even my 05 plate W211 won't do postcodes, it only works if you have a street name. :(

That does look like a lovely example. Love the red interior as well.

That's another one crossed off the list before getting a chance to view :(
However found another in Enfield, though I am still waiting for the dealer to call me back to arrange a viewing  This one is identical to the Wife's car colour and interior, same year come to think of it

These cars seem to be selling fast at the moment! I bought mine the end of October when sales seemed a bit slower. I would be interested on what you think of the SL55 performance compared to the SL500, i am very surprised at my SL's performance for a car with just 306bhp so the SL55 must be awesome.

I believe so.
Our SL500 has been chipped and is so much quicker and much more responsive than 2 other SL500's I have driven in the last fortnight.
The paper work I have with our remap estimates an extra 6bhp on a stage 2 remap  Certainly feels stronger than an increase of 6bhp. My Wife averages 25mpg to work and back, 2 mpg more than the E240 :|
(We can get 29mpg on a long run but who wants to drive a V8 Mercedes without using the throttle).
I will keep you up dated :)

These remaps can be so much more than raw power increases, driveability and torque feature highly and are effectively more desirable (certainly to me).
When mine is done that's what I'm after (not that the stock 382hp is to be sneezed at, never mind the additional power my exhaust mod gained me), if I could manage over 20mpg that'd be a bonus, not that I care too much on that...as you say its a Merc V8 after all, and to be driven!

So you have the 5.5l V8. I kind of wish i had upped my budget and gone for the bigger engine, but theres always an upgrade next year.

I have indeed and it's the 2009 face lift with the single headlight clusters - it's pretty damned quick already and runs like a dream since the large scope service
