Hi there. I am new to the site & hope someone may be able to help me. I've owned my 2002 C220 for about 9 months having bought it from my local Mercedes dealer. Just had a nice £500 bill for a 'B' service only to be told that the car now requires the injectors replacing at an eye watering £1,100! My question's to the forum is this: Do injectors need to be replaced or can they be refurbished? Is there anybody out there who could recommend an injector specialist in the South Cumbria area. Also, can anybody recommend a good independent servicing specialist who charges reasonable rates in or around the Lakes? The car has done 89,000 miles & has a full main dealer service history from new. Sadly the injectors are not covered under the warranty that was supplied with the car when I bought it, but the starter motor is (which has also just gone). Have I bought a duffer or what? Is there anything else likely to go wrong with this particular model?? Any feedback welcome. Thanks

Sounds to me that you are unlucky with the starter motor, unless its done a lot of starting at that mileage,if the car is running o.k. leave the injectors for another 20,000mls, then if you intend keeping it book it in to a diesel injector garage for exchange or have yours serviced, price about £250.00 they will be good for another 100,000mls thats what M.B. do. Hope this helps

Do you have starting or running problems with the car? What reason did they say for needing the injectors replacing?

As rappey 69, are the injectors failing, or leaking. If leaking, the replacement bold and seal is <£5.

The dealer below has been mentioned on another forum...

I also own a c220 cdi and was told be a MB dealer that poor fuel consumption was due to 4 leaking injectors. Not knowing any better I let them change them at a similar cost to what you have been quoted.

The fuel consumption actually got slightly worse. I consulted the forum and found out that the car was running too cold. The thermostat was replaced by a friend of mine at a cost of £80. The car now runs a the correct temp and returns the mpg it should.

The lesson I leanrt was never take you car to a MB dealer for work.

Hope this helps.

auto tech are2 ex MB guys who set up on their own. they cn be cheaper for some things, more expensive for others. i needed my atf level checked. they wanted £20 just to plug their star in, where MB of carlisle checked and added the minimal drop of oil (about 1/4 litre) and it cost me nothing!
