The clock and temperature gauges on my instrument cluster failed so I decided to change it. I got one, probably used, and fitted it on. Everything works well except that the fuel gauge works oposite. When the car was returned to me by the mechanic the gauge said I had 10 litres in the car. I knew I had over 70. So I filled the tank to the brim and immidiately the fuel warning light lit up! the gauge sai I had 0 liters and 0 range! What is that????

Hi,
You have not said what car/year the car is, I,ll hazard a guess.
The gauge as far as i,m aware are just moving coil meters and operate by measuring the battery voltage through a variable resistance (fuel tank sender unit), if the connections for the gauge were reversed it would cause the symptons you described.

You may have a coding issue, but we need a few more details about your car to be accurate.
