Can any of you recommend a decent insurance firm, I'm getting quoted silly prices at the moment?
I'm 28, clean licence and 2yrs no claims bonus, quotes for a C180 between 1400 and 1700 quid!!!

Its just crazy, the insurance on my 1973 350sl is 95 quid a year.

I don't get a decent quote, I'm going to sell the C class, and just drive the SL, the saving will more than pay for the running costs.

Try Warwick Davis on 01903 502000, they are a firm in Surrey, ive got my 190e insured through them, and i pay about £370 a year. Admitedly thats only TPFT cover, but its not bad considering im 24, and 6 years NCB.

Got to be worth a shot i reckon.

It really is becoming a very specialised market these days. I have a little book written by an ex car insurance
assessor/agent(out of print ) which details all the wrinkles to utilise when replying to the catechism of queries put to you when applying, that can save quite
substantial sums of money .
It also depends what you want from your insurance...such things as getting another Merc. whilst your damaged/written off one is replaced.Do you want any old bodyshop repairing it ?. I find that when you study the small print & start asking THEM questions the
worms start crawling out of the woodwork!
The most important thing is to Shop around, it maybe a pain but you can save substantial sums of money & still
get good value for money.
I pay 280-00 for my 250TD, fully Comp....but I am wrinkled & grey & only go out on sunny days!

Thanks for the input guys, I've tried these firms and they're talking 500-600 so I'll just go for the best overall cover.
Malcom, I insure my SL as part of a collection with my father (4 other cars and 2 old bikes).  I do know we must have everyday cars though, which keeps the classic premiums down.
I'll check who its with and let you know.

Pat - Also 28 and I too found that quotes varied wildly. Ended up with www.Tesco.com - in the finance section.

Paying £400 Fully Comp on a 1998 C200 Sport, with full no claims in a rural location.

Try Bell Direct - www.belldirect.co.uk.  They were cheap and professional ( cheaper than admiral who underwrite them ) and when we got the Merc in summer we kept our old Cavalier for my wife - whe was given full NCB for her first year just because she had been a claim-free named driver on my policy.
96 C200,  about £300 to insure - 35 yr old, Full NCB, car crime central ( Teesside )

Have you tried mercedes insurance?  I did a fair bit of shopping around and they were cheapest: I'm 27, 8pts (speeding), 3 accidents (2 my fault), 2yrs NCB, SLK230, £1700.  Okay, it's a lot but I would've thought you'd get much cheaper on a C180.

Hi Slinky,
Ooh! thats heavy money.Yes,I have had a couple of periods with MB insurance. They were fine when they were run by a company in Ireland, straight up & answered all the questions but they went downhill after they changed.
I tried them again last year but they came a close second to Saga.
I note they now offer a replacement  car of at least C class...I dont feel safe in a vauxhall corsa.

regards
Ernest
