Insurance valuation

Hello,

I've just been offered £600 by my insurers following an economic write-off of my 1989 230TE. The car has a full service history, 272000 miles on it, cloth upholstery with no holes or burns, no air con and a sunroof that works. Bodywork is good with a bit of rust round the jacking points.

Is this a fair valuation? It's difficult to get a sense of what it's worth because of the mileage so I would be grateful for any input. I'm not sure that ebay achieved prices are a reliable guide.

Grateful for any pointers...

Thanks

Id say that £500-£1000 would be about right. It is a 19 year old car with huge miles and I doubt youd get more than that if you'd sold it.
Still worth pushing though, especially if you could show any money recently spent. A phone call could be worth a couple of hundred as I doubt for that money they'll bother arguing. It's cheaper for them to just pay up.

Thanks for that. I've got receipts for at least £600 in the last 8 months, so will give it a shot.

Just try finding a decent early W124 with history... You'd need to spend £1000-2000 to find a really good example and that should be what you aim for
