As they say it pays to shop around.

Had the renewal for the 129 the other day. - £387 so thought time to shop around again....

Five minutes later £208.
Rang the original company and they managed to get the renewal down to £322 - "Would you like to stay at the new price?"

Er... No.

Used to be an annual ritual for me as well shopping round for a better quote but I’ve found that being with Aviva multi-car has pretty much put a stop to that painful experience, I suppose I benefit from having all my other insurance with them - happy days long may it last :)

I have notice renewals nearly doubled from last year :( and whilst I’ve been able to reduce the premiums by shopping around not one is close to last years:(

I got inflation and the "everyone is having to do it" response to which my response was "but this company is still 33% cheaper than your best price and they're in the same market as you".
No reply to that.

Mine came through last month, I thought it was on auto renew so didn't pay much attention as it was £260 which was much the same as last year. Checked on Ask Mid the day it was supposed to have renewed and listed as uninsured.
My mistake, so quick phone call and I'm told as you never paid to renew, it must now go through as a new quote, that will be £350, is that OK? Err no, don't bother.
Quick look on one of the comparison sites and 10 minutes later was insured for £207.

I count myself lucky I found similar cover last week for just £18 more than last years price.
A local broker couldn't come close. Over £300 dearero_O

Problem is that you are talking to a person reading from a script. They probably don’t even understand what they are talking about.

I’ve found brokers are usually more expensive. We’ve been using LV for a while now because they have consistently given us the best price.

It really annoys me that when the renewal comes through and it has doubled, you shop around and find it much cheaper elsewhere. Your current insurer then offers to reduce your renewal price. That basically tells me they were just trying to rip me off!

Like everything - always seems that you have to shop around to get a better price when subscriptions renew. Broadband & anti-virus spring to mind.

Yup. But even then premiums have really gone up??? Not related to any inflation unless Argentina or Russia?

Brokers are useful if you have a remapped or modified car and find getting insurance difficult. They can usually find a deal somewhere.
But its pretty obvious brokers can't compete when you take their commission into account.
Not that long ago brokers were the only place to get your insurance. Along came the internet.

Parts supply difficulties, inflation (was running at 15+% not long ago) , wage rises, increase in car repair costs, cash for crash claims increasing, etc etc. It all mounts up, but some of the increases beggar belief

Yep.
My renewal came in today. Up £100 on last year.
Rang to cancel (already bought elsewhere ) and they kindly reduced the increase to £44.
I told her they had their chance with the renewal. Goodbye.
