Hi,

Its that time of year again for me when the dreaded insurance renewal drops through the door.

Currently insured with Morethan and with the 20% renewal discount it still comes out £60 more than last year its a joke.

Can anyone recomend a good insurance / Broker who gives a competitive rate on MB's.

Here all the storys how you can get Fully comp for less than £200 but where ?

I have clean sheet no conv max no claims etc

Thanks

I have just renewed mine in the last few days and was quoted £481 for a renewal and even got it discounted £100 by putting a new online quote with the same insurer but I found MoneySupermarket did some great deals but in the end I got a good one from the IAM Surety through Royal Sun Alliance at £249, with protected NCD and some business travel as well, so the £18I paid for the 12 month membership to IAM as repaid itself many times over

I use direct choice. They were very good after my accident, and they tend to find cover that is cheaper than the quotes from price comparison companies.

My Jaguar X Type last year in UK cost just over £200 the MB 220cdi cost €800 for 9 months with full NCB in France. I think car insurance in the UK is not so bad

A warning about confused.com, i put in my details and got a whole load of quotes though, when i enquired directly about any of them the companies took my information again and every single quote went up by £200-300!!! I was so angry.

I find A-Plan to be very good.

Go on the Morethan website and reapply as if you are a new customer. I bet it comes up lower !. I go through this same performance with Norwich Union every year ( 3 motors ) and this year even got some M&S vouchers whilst binning their over priced renewal quote .

Hi,

Ime, don't just use comparison websites - follow all the advice in the relevant section of www.moneysavingexpert.com. I used two of the four recommended comparison websites - moneysupermarket.com and gocompare.com (in about four years, I've never had a cheap quote from confused.com  ) but, before I took the cheapest quote, I checked the cashback section of moneysavingexpert.com. From this, I found that if I took the second-cheapest quote (only £6 more), I got another £40 back from wepromiseto.com.

So, all told, £269 for a 2000 E320CDI estate, 16k a year, both MissusMac and me driving, no points but one prang apiece (mine my fault), kept on a drive in west Kent. Only thing I haven't got around to doing is seeing how it compares to the Owners' Club insurance.

Finally, I'm not sure why, having got quotes from comparison websites, you'd then try and go direct to the insurers and be quoted hundreds of pounds more. You've got a quote, the comparison websites take you through to your chosen insurer ...

Hth.

Regards,

Hi

There's no point asking individual people which company is the cheapest as the price is based on 'personal' details/factors. Just becuase your mate gets his insurance for £200 from one company doesn't follow you will too.

Just follow the advice on www.moneysavingexpert.com

It recommends going through the price comparison websites in a certain order which if you do pretty much gets you quotes from 100% of the market.

I'd always phoned around a handful, but tried this last year and it worked great! I ended up going with Privilege.

Please note however - the cheapest price you get on the website isn't normally the best cover. You'll probably find the 4th or 5th cheapest actually gives you a more satisfying mix of cover / benefits and a reasonable excess.

whoever sends you a renewal.phone them up suggest you have a cheaper quote, and ask them what they can do to keep your custom. STAY AHEAD OF THE GAME the same goes for banks account interest,And communications,if you dont ask you wont get

Go for the cheapest brandeds. Don't go to something you haven't heard off. Make sure you enter the details correctly especially the no claim else they can come back for more.

Try Chris Knott Insurance

I'm suprised no one has mentioned arranging insurance through the Owners Club! I have used Chris Knott insurance brokers for over 3 years now on a variety of mercedes and they have always been quite a bit cheaper than any other available quotes. They give a 10% discount if you are a club member and you also get basic breakdown cover for free (although I still maintain my RAC membership).

Thanks for all imput,
Tried all the comparison sites and saved a few quid but as stated cheaper is not always best because of the options you get with your cover.

Gave Admiral a ring as jibcl500 said and got a real good deal on a multi car deal saved £222 on renewal quote on my policy alone and when my wifes Insurance due in March they have set price for that which is a £55 saving on what she paid last year, with only compromise the breakdown cover but hey could get 5 years AA for that.

Point is it's worth asking folk who have had a good deal and ring them direct because Admiral were no where on the comparison sites.

Thanks

I've always found Admiral very competitive - I was with them for about 6 years in a row as they were always cheapest. Have to say Privilege pipped them to the post for me last year with an £80 saving, better level of standard cover and lower claim excess and lower glass/windscreen excess. The lower windscreen excess has already served me well with the extreme misfortune of having to have two new windscreens after being cracked instantly beyond repair on two occasions by flying stones while driving!!

There is a website www.quidco.com or .co.uk 9cant remember exactly. It is basically a cashback website. Many of the major insurance companies are on this and give as much as £100 cash back if you buy the policy after clicking through the quidco website. I generally use confused .com then have a look which one is giving the best cashback through quidco and adjust what the real cost of the insurance is going to be. Time consuming but rewarding when you get a top insurance company very cheaply in real terms.
