Intermitent ASR/ABS Light On

My 1998 C280 has developed a potential problem with the ASR/ABS light sometimes being on and other times going off.

I see from recent postings that this could be a brake switch or possibly a faulty wheel speed sensor. A local independent has suggested through their diagnosis system that it is probably a wheel speed sensor but nothing definite. Cost to replace £160-£200 plus vat. Is this a reasonable price? If so fine but I'm reluctant to spend out without having a more definite assurance it will cure the problem. I understand the brake switch is a much cheaper option but if so would this appear as a specific fault code?

You can change the brake light switch for £10, it must be worth doing that first

I've replaced the brake switch but no joy, the ASR/ABS lights remains on. Looks like it will be a faulty wheel speed sensor that needs replacing. Is this the same as the ABS sensor? Folk I've spoken to seem to use different terms for the same thing. I've been quoted £75 plus fitting £100, "they can be difficult to extract". Is this reasonable?

I have had to grill them out before, some can snap as you try to remove them, so not bad price!
