What I mean is, the C class estate's are all the same shell's (I think) but is the 1.8 engine just to small for it, or no. I got a test drive in one the other week and it drive fine apart front "wondering". But all in all felt good, but just not sure it's under powered because of the engine.

Does anyone have one, that could help?

PS...It was an auto I was looking at.

I've just bought a C200. I did test drive a few C180's beforehand, and have to say that the 200 is a LOT better. (All were estates, btw) I also tested an older (94) C250 diesel, non-turbo, and that was woefully underpowered, in my opinion.

Hang out for a 200. Similar mpg, and much better on power...;)

I rented a 1.8 Kompressor wagon in the UK recently. It cruised OK at 90+ (license not at risk!!) and if I stomped hard on the gas pedal it moved along in town, but otherwise was a bit, er, leisurely but nice to drive. Only real disappointment was the luggage space - rented a Vectra 6 mons. earlier and it swallowed everything. In the C, 1 suitcase was on the back seat.

Had an estate C180 for a week, plenty of power unless your name is Jeremy Clarkson!

Thanks, but I should really wait for a 200..

Like I say though, it felt ok, just this "wondering" from the front.

If the fronts all over the shop, there's some serious wear in the front suspension so I'd leave well alone.

IMHO, a W202 C180 or C200 are going to be a little gutless in estate form - I'd hold out for a C220CDI or C250TD estate (although you may have to pay more). A W203, on the other hand is going to be a much better prospect, that supercharger makes all the difference and the engine is a whole lot smoother.

2001 CLK 230 kompressor Avantgarde 6 speed manual with loads of factory options!
Wait for the best estate car, there are plenty, i have the w202 estate C180 & its fantastic! Lovely and smooth, plenty of pull, auto version, depends what you are usuing it for, mine is a weekend car, with the cruise control on dual carragewys etc, it is quiet & smooth. Make sure you opt for the auto box whatever engine size you go for, dont discount the C180 if the condition is spot on...

And its seemingly only did 97k!!....and was last serviced (if the books right and genuine) 4 years ago at 50oddk.

I thought about waiting for somthing better, I may well do that.
