And therin lies your problem..you should never overtake if it is your intention to sit at the speed limit.....:p:lol:

To be fair, the OP did say that the lorry sped up as he passed it.

Though I can't believe he would have sped up so much as to require a final speed of 87mph...he wasn't a sports car.

Although some trucks can exceed the limit ( notably Scanias), I've never yet seen an HGV that can do 87.

Though with limiters, no lorry built in the last 10 years should be able to exceed 56mph.

Honestly it was pouring down and when i pulled in (as i did not want to collect points) i was over 85mph and i had to pull in to let the vechiles behind me past even at this speed and by the time i slowed to 68-70 mph he was up my backside . I might not be the smartest cookie in the pack but i want to live for a while yet and even at 70 in the rain it was fast enough for me.
sorry now i did not wait till he had got his speed up then i would not have had to overtake at all but i assumed he would be going down motorway at 50-55 mph not 70

safe motoring too all and have a good trip

Isn't it dual carriageway to the border, at which point it becomes the M1 on the southern side?

Therefore, if it was north of the border, and a dual carriageway, his maximum speed should have been 50 (as an artic), which makes it all the more strange the speed he was doing.

I had an MAN artic in '87 that would cruise at 95mph comfortably if you were so inclined.

For Naraic's info i'm neither of his assertions from one his earlier aggressive posts, born of an Irish (Co Clare) mother i know a good number of Irish truck drivers, well those that haven't been replaced by east europeans, yet, and its always been the case that many Irish truck's limiters have been 'vague' to say the least...there have always been ways round limiters but few other than those would risk such speeds now.

It was apprently an Irish truck anyway, surprisingly enough though could have been driven by any nationality, so whats your beef?

Not sure about that when you consider the speed you were doing in those conditions AND the fact that you then repeatedly touched your brakes in front of a truck that could have been weighing 40+ ton.

I'm only saying.....no offence intended. :D:D
