Hi there I’ve been looking at getting a 2010-2012 Mercedes e350 but all there seems to be are the 2009 models with low mileage, where ever I look. Would prefer the later model as it’s the 264bhp as the the 234bhp. But I’ve seen some nice e250,s and even, e220 are they really a bad car compared to the e350???

Differing views best research. Some, engines in busy use are doing extraordinary miles, others in short trip use are doing timing chains, sprockets at really low miles.I would not buy as a short trip, shopping motor if yr doing fairly high miles ,disable stop start ,change oil earlier than mb recommend I think yr likely ok

Also read adblue, dpf, egr issues on these motors .again short trips low annual miles, I would avoid this motor. Non of the issues mentioned above are cheap to fix.

Ok thanks buddy it will be my daily car I do around 40 miles a day to work and back and on most weekends I drive around 140 miles round trip to see my kids so it’s looking like e350 the better engine then

You don't like mercs do you.

They go into 9th at 70mph if you know how

I like my older mercs,I am not much of a fan of the newer.between the two I feel there was a big negative ( for consumer ) change in benz business models.
The info I am going on,if I understand correctly ,maybe not ? Is that 9 g gearboxes dont change up a the best times following some services that involve updates.and that there is often little customer choice in the matter. Which,if the case I WOULD not like.
I am perfectly content to be advised I have it wrong.

I'm finding too many gears even with the 7 speed it's the lower ones , 5 would suffice the 2.1 biturbo produces most of it's torque at low rpm and starts dropping at 2K ( 250 CDI ) so in normal driving I'm constantly up shifting on the flappy as 1700 rpm is plenty and there's no need for even 2K .

Just shows how they've set the car up with a broad range of engines in mind .

Think so but others will be able to confirm.I dont think the OM651 is a bad engine, but I do think its not great as a general run about. As a high mileage motor I think info I see, read suggests it is as good as any modern motor.
I have it in my ml so I have made it my business to keep abreast of known issues/fixes
I now dont use it as a runabout .longer trips yes,tho covid has fd that up for now.

Wait reports /view from those actually driving and maintaining the model of yr preference.
For me.my 20 yr old v6 3.2 is very hard to beat, but I dont have any aspirations regards buying a new benz, my personal view, not expecting all to share it,is that modern benz, say 2006/8 onwards are designed to keep us opening our wallets far more than providing quality.

The c class is better throw it about drive. Where as the e class is an executive motorway cruiser. Think the 9g came about in 2013 , at 70 mph your doing 1100 rpm thereabouts.

E classes are great. I have the om651 and have minor troubles it's the dreaded chain rattle that is the common complaint. Although I have never had it and iv have done 138k.

162k on my om651 and not a rattle, at least that I can hear, interesting conversation from Ajlsl600 as regards them not being a good short tripper. I only have 6 mile round trip to work this incoming winter and already finding issues with trying to keep battery up which is only natural with lights on dark mornings etc. I did have an engine light on a week ago something to do with boost pressure but hasn't appeared since so AJLSl600 might have a point there. I might park her up during the week and pull the rav4 out for work driving rather than risk any issues with short trips all winter and not much weekend driving with covid lockdown for foreseeable future
