is there any way of reprograming a key fob

Hi all is there any way of testing a key fob or reprogramming it at all.
I am just wondering as either the EIS has gone or the key there is a big difference in price.
I went to Mercedes and they said not to buy the key untill I have had the diagnostics done on the car but other people have told me to buy the key what do I do?

I dont know if the procedure below applies to your MB model and it might only be for resetting the door lock/unlock function but worth trying anyway............


Put the key in the ignition, push the lock button on your keyfob, pull the key out while still holding down the lock button and press the unlock button 5 times. The key is now reset.

Let me know if this works ...
