I am contemplating buying a 12volt powered Jet Washer,it holds it's own water,14liters and is powered by the cigarette lighter socket, the product is called a DIRTWORKER www.dirtworker.co.uk.
Does anybody have experience of these, and if so are they realy suitable for car washing ?
Thanks

From their own site: -

How many bikes can I clean with it?

It depends on how dirty your bikes are and how you use it. You can normally clean a couple of bikes under normal conditions. If you've hit serious mud then a bike may take a tankful.
Can I clean my car with it?

Use it to rinse down after hand-washing or to clean fresh mud off number plates or headlamps.
What about motocross bikes?

Yes, you can use Dirtworker, but it'll take more than one load of water and longer than standard jet washers.
Can I use detergents with it?

We don't recommend that you put detergents in the tank. Only because the pumping action could turn the water into foam and slow it down. Second, although unlikely, some detergents may not be compatible with the materials used in making the pump.

So, after reading this I'd have thought no, it's not suitable for washing a car with..

Like 12volt vacuam cleaners that would not pull the skin off a rice pudding, these things will not be of much use. High pressure washers are good for the wheels and grills, anything else like side panels, they are a waste of time as the dirt needs agitating anyway.

The current consumption will be very high and you would need a good battery, I notice that this figure is not included in the spec. I think a waste of money.

I think this statement from their site says it will be unsuitable for cleaning cars...
Dirtworker produces only 70 PSI of pressure.
You'd be better off chucking a bucket of water at your car.

It is in the FAQ though:
The Dirtworker runs at between 4 and 5 amps. Typical car batteries are 30 or 40 amp hours. This means you could run a Dirtworker for between 6 and 8 hours on a fully charged battery without having to switch on your engine recharging.
I have to concur - waste of money. For around the same amount, you can get a real jet washer. OK, not portable; but how often do you want to clean your car away from a mains supply?

you want to but this for your car,

hmm, well you plug it in the car and need to leave a door, , window open for the trailing cable, well i would think that you will inevitably get water in the car,

from the blurb its more designed for portable things like bikes.

you can get a normally obtain a mains fed jet washer pretty cheap now, certainly less than 79.99

Just depends on how dirty your car is what ever happens you only have 7 mins to do the job in I have a petrol Karcher which I use to clean the offroader after an event so I leave all the mud where I found it but it takes 50 gallons to clean it properly lasts for about 1/2 Hr I got it of a guy who repaires lawn mowers for £120 second hand

Thanks for your feedback,it appears that no one has first hand experience of these washers, parking on a street as I do I rather hoped a portable 12 volt jet wash might solve a problem.
