The 1 year old S-Max will be sold at the end of the month to be replaced by a 74,000 mile Automatic 260e which I picked up yesterday.

Having driven it back to Wokingham from Sittingbourne (90 miles) I am very pleased with my £1023 ebay purchase.

Please could you advise me on the following:

1. I would like to take the car for a full service, and general look over, to a independant mercedes specialist ASAP. We live near Reading but I am prepared to travel. Priority is for someone who cares about mercedes rather cheapness. Does anyone have any suggestions.

2. The cloth seat is worn in the usual place. Can I get it repaired or do I need a replacement. Any advice on somebody who could do this for me would be greatly appreciated.

3. The 1 owner who owned the car before me always put in lead replacement Redex everytime he filled up with unleaded. Is this required or is it just a generally good preventative measure.

4. Where is the best place to go for replacement parts as I need a new drivers side mirror - again customer support is more important than absolute cheapness.

I am really looking forward to getting back to a real car although I do expect to go back outside and find that the car won't start and will miss 40mpg and air-con!

Cheers

Hi Steve,
welcome to world of real motoring. cant help with all your points, however:-
Redex Lead Replacement? mine is of a similar vintage (2.0 4-cyl) and the only mod to run unleaded is a timing change. there is still a sticker in the engine bay to show it has been done. so if it is not required, then its a waste of money.

finally. you wont miss your Smax, your merc will start every morning, and if you want air con, open a window. If you want to complete your trips quickly and with economy then keep the ford, if you want to do it in style?......
