Hi All

I have just bought myself a M reg C280 Elegance :D

Its got quite a few miles (158K to be precise) on the clock but is in good condition both inside and out. There are two problems which is the stereo (which has the model number RM2205) has no front and the nearside rear passenger window does not work electrically which will be sorted for me.

Does anyone know where I can might be able to get a front for the stereo?

Also what sort of things can I do to keep it running OK? Obviously I know its a risk buying a car with high mileage but given its good mechanical condition I think it could run for a good few miles without problems if I look after it properly.

Is there a good Mercedes specialist around the south of London? I have heard that the main dealers can be a little steep for parts and the like so a good alternative would be much welcomed.

Cheers

Hi Tom,
Welcome to the forum. Same car as mine. Mercedes service items aren't badly priced and I get a discount from my local main dealer as a member of this forum. Don't skimp on quality parts, that's why they are so reliable. Usual items like decent oil, filter, coolant, brake fluid changes every 9k miles. Oil the throttle cable if the action gets sticky, and look after that big single wiper. Don't try to shift snow with it! Lubricate it every couple of years. N/S passenger window could be just dry bearings (plain) in the motor. Easy to strip and lubricate (an earlier post of mine explains). Search this forum and you'll find plenty of info. Oh, and I never use supermarket petrol in any of my cars - they run better on the quality branded stuff. Auto box fluid and filter change every 36k miles.
Good luck with your stereo.
Ron

Hi,
as Ron says, just look after it and keep to the service schedule and you won't go too far wrong.
According to google, that model number is for a Radiomobile set. To be honest, I'd probably just swap it out and get a nice new stereo in there - the cost won't be much different, its a lot less hassle and you'd proably find that if you did get a front, the rest would't work properly anyway (sods law and all that). Most C's around that era had Sony or Blaupunct as all stereos were dealer fitted. There were no factory radios in those days.
