I was fiddling with my aftermarket RCL unit on my W124 estate, with my only set of keys next to me on the back seat.

I locked the doors by pushing down the driver's lock pin, and had disconnected one of the wires from the RCL unit. I then pushed the rear driver's side passenger door shut, and now I'm locked out.

The rear door is slightly ajar (ie not closed properly), but is still locked. There is a slight gap which I can get a piece of wire past the door, but I don't see how I can open it.

Help?

using a wedge of hard plastic on either side of the door to avoid damaging the paint work, and with a tool like a crow bar or steel flat pipe you can gently 'bend' the door open at its uppermost free corner to let you get a wire coat hanger in, you'll need to make a hook in the coat hanger to grab the door handle and open the door that way

good luck

Thanks, but won't that damage the door?

It is a rotary latch on the rear door, you may be able to release it, I can send you a drawing of the lock

I've called the AA and they say they'll be here in about 40 minutes.

They said I'd have to sign a 'damage disclaimer' which sounds rather grim...

Did you learn how, or are you sworn to secrecy?

Well done on getting such a smooth and painless result.

He had a long metal rod with a hook on the end, and some kind of rubbery pump thing which he put at the top of the passenger door and inflated to create a gap.

Then he just slid the rod through the gap and pulled the door handle :p

We'll send food parcels and visit you from time to time. Has there ever been a gtg on Dartmoor before?

Dont talk to me about food parcels, the joke is they come knocking on my door to help the aged, how old do you have to be to get a food parcel:confused::confused:

Where did you think I was going to get them from? I can't eat them all myself. Do they travel well?

Have you locked your car keys in the car?
Does your car have remote keyless entry?
This may come in handy someday.

If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their mobile phone from your mobile phone.

Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end.

Your car will (added by jamesmc : might) unlock.

Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you.
Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of kms away, and if you can reach someone who has the other 'remote' for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the boot/rear hatch).

Note by James n Gina: We've just tried this and it works fine on our company car (2008 Fiat Punto) but didn't work on our 10 year old CLK230K Cab (which I think uses older IR technology rather than RF).
