Hi, I've got a 92 190D with the 2.5l 5cyl diesel and automatic box, it indicates 90k miles, but I don't think this is genuine. I bought the car as a diesel workhorse.
Anyway, there is quite a loud knocking sound (sounds a bit like a pnuematic drill) that can also be felt through the body as the car, when it is idling and the box is in N. This gets a bit less noticable with a few more revs. It disapears completely when put in D. When in R the noise is quieter but much deeper. I am not greatly expierienced with autos, but everything else seems fine, changes are smooth and it doesn't seem to be slipping. The effect is more noticable when the engine is cold. I know it is idling a wee bit slow (550/600ish) and will adjust that this evening.
Hopefully someone who knows more about these things than me (not difficult!) can point me in the right direction.
Thanks, Hibbo.
