Hello all, have found the source of a leak from the auto box on my W211 [2003 classic]. It's coming from the selector shaft and was wondering what is involved in replacing this seal. Thanks

The autobox doesnt have a selector shaft, its electronic and only has a wiring loom and plug into the box..the seals on the plug do leak..

w211 gearbox leak

Hello again, can someone tell me what the small arm on the passenger side of the auto box is, because that's where the leak is coming from? Thanks

it does have a selector shaft on the side of the box, so take no notice of this statement above, the selector shaft seal is a common problem, the selector lever in the car is physically linked to the box via a rod and then the rod connects to this selector shaft, its valve body out job, not an easy diy job,

little tip dont believe everything you read, be it in newspapers or on here,

Hi MB Tech

What does the selector shaft select? Is it just park?

im pretty sure it will select drive, reverse neutral park etc physically via the gear lever, link rod then selector shaft, the tiptronic function is done electrically, hope this helps,

Mea culpa..No what you said was u know it all.. I have never professed to do so. but i have come across guys who feel they do and their tact is to ridicule others... You have a business, ppl on here will use you if you are good at what you do...but once you start running down others it reflects on you.. when someone on here posts a reply and it is wrong diplomacy would suggest that the proper answer is posted and the snide remarks are left out ..as was 230k's post, polite and professional ..and it makes for a much happier forum.

Hi mb tech, i've changed the electrical plug, the sump seal and filterand refilled the box but still the leak persisted. I've purchased the new seal for a few quid and was going to get stuck into it with a buddy of mine ~ what's involved if you don't mind? Also , how much should i put back into the box seeing as though it's been leaking
