Do lighter pulleys really equal a few more BHP?

Some guy who makes these pulleys said that he could make a custom set of pulleys for my crankshaft, alternator and fan = around 12 BHP?

Whats your take on lightening pulleys?

You mean Under pulleys, Ok in a warm dry climate, over here you need all that the alternator can give.

In the USA where this first started, the power requirements are not the same as ours. Its not only the alternator, the water pump and Air Con and power steering are all affected.

Not the crank pulley?

I have never worked on these engines but....be careful about putting a lightened crank pulley on. If the original pulley included a harmonic balancer (basically the pulley is made of an outer and inner ring bonded together with vulcanised rubber) like most of the US V8's had, if you replace it with a solid lightened pulley you run the risk of knocking out the main bearings due to crank vibrations that the harmonic balancer was designed to suppress. This only really applies to engines that the original was a two piece bonded together affair. Remember that when a competition crank is balanced it balanced complete with flywheel and crank pulley so the inertial weight of the pulley makes a difference. Just my take on replacing crank pulleys. Are you really going to notice 12BHP?

Good advice and true, I like the last bit about the gain in HP, the cost and work involved for that gain is beyond all nor,al reasoning.

Lightening pulleys just reduces inertia, might help the acceleration a little no way it can increase power really
cheers
