My car had been holding onto gears a bit too much and then went into limp mode. I took it to my usual local garage who read 13!!!! codes stored. There was a MAF fault, turbo actuator fault and many others. They thought it might have been a boost leak so I left it with them for a wee while and they diligently checked across the two MAFs and pipes etc and ended up replacing a 13 amp fuse under the bonnet. (may have ben 24 or 30).

This seems to have fixed the fault but they told me that if it was the turbo actuator failing then it would probably happen again and Mercedes only sell turbo with actuator.

A quick internet search makes it look like actuators fail regularly and turbos do not, and a few places seemed to recon the actuators. If that was the problem, does anyone have any recommendations for sending my actuator off for a refurb or where to pick up a reconditioned one please? I am in Scotland but I would imagine a courier to and from would be normal. Many Thanks if you read this far...

OM642 actuators are a common failure, but they rarely throw up a code. replaced the one om my W251 last year.

13 codes doesnt mean 13 faults per se but helps a knowledgeable indy to dignaose a pinpoint the fault.

Yes MB sell the turbo with actuator, whip off the old one (Honeywell) and be sure match up the part number if you change yourself, about a 2 hour job, its usually the plastic worm gear thats worn or dry solders as the thing sits directly next to the not so cool turbo.

Just google actuator repair, but you are better of getting a new one as backup, as mentioned although places do repair them, the bench tests dont put them next to hot turbo and thus you wont be expanding any dry/cracked solders. But do confirm with who repairs them
