Looking at a 2015 car what's the difference betwenn 250 CDi /250d

I see that the later has a 9 speed box?

As far as I know, it was simply a change by Mercedes in the way they designated models - so all diesels became “d” rather than “CDI”. They also introduced “e” for plug in and hybrid models. This was done across all models but there may have been the usual facelift updates to particular models at that time

D rather than CDI as by now all diesels are common rail, so no need to distinguish.

Ironically it means the old diesel designator has come back ;)

CDi = Old model and needs to be chucked in the bin
D = the new one!

as the saying goes "out of the old, in with the new"
