Lost pump

Hi itsGS George Ive got a 1990 W126 300Se auto S class straight 3 litre six.I suffered bad starting but when it was up n running no probs but tickover was rough n lumpy never stalled though .Any way it was in the my garage ticking over while I listened and it just suddennly died Now it wont start the fuel pump is not pumping when I turn on the ignition.I disconected the pump ad put a small motorcycle battery to the pump hey presto fuel pump works and fuel is being pumped to the petrol injector pump.So Im thinking relay Which one is it 126 820 20 26? I got some info from a parts cd which shows the pump system involving RPM input)2 sensor heater output temperature input Ect all a bit daunting me being used to Mercedes Diesels. Can I test the relay when I locate it?Any help appreciated.

Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
If you have a meter, just connect one probe to the 12V on the pump, and the other probe use that to fish around and find where it terminates. Of course you might find that the pump shares the supply with something else, but at least you'll be in the right ballpark.
