Hi!
First post so please be kind - and apologies if this is a well known problem! I'm shortly going to inherit my old mans trusty 1990 (W124) 200TE with nearly 200,000 miles on the clock as a freebie to use as a daily driver, so I can take my real pride and joy (VW Corrado) off the road for fettling / less frequent use.
The car has generally been well looked after with servicing when due, etc but obviously with nearly 200,000 on it, it's a little tired and will need some TLC. The real money needs to go on the Corrado but I don't want to run this thing into the ground simply because it doesn't deserve it.
Biggest and most immediate problem is a loud noise if you're anything other than gentle when changing gear and releasing the clutch and subsequently applying the throttle. My dad mentioned something about it being the driveshaft but didn't elaborate. Just wondered if anyone knew what it might be likely to be, and if it'd be expensive to get put right. It's been doing it for a good few years now and hasn't got any worse so I'm not immediately expected to find myself calling the AA - but it's something I'd like to put right!
Thanks in advance
