Recently bought 1977 450SLC (gold - very 70s!). Assumed LRP would be appropriate fuel, but Haynes manual refers to catalytic converter in post 1975 cars 'restricting [them] to unleaded fuel'. I notice that this is a USA edition of the manual - can I assume that UK/Europe cars did not have this restriction?
Advice appreciated...

I think this may be US as they switched to catalytic coverters/unleaded fuel earlier.
It should run fine on unleaded as long as the ignition timing is correctly retarded. I run my 380 on unleaded all the time, used to fill every fifth tank or so with leaded (there are a few garages left that sell it, at a high price of course!), but was advised by my garage - a specialist - that there's not really much point, they've never seen any problems. Some use an additive in every few tanks of fuel.
Obviously the 450 is a different engine, so you might want to check with a knowledgeable specialist.
