E class 320 Cdi estate 2000, about 60,000 miles. Recently the engine has started to tickover very roughly, but only on occasion, but it seems to be getting worse. Otherwise the engine runs fine, it is only when you stop you realise the car feels very lumpy and the body shakes. It used to be only now and again, but this week it is nearly every time. Should I book in for a computer analysis, at vast expense? Or does anyone have any ideas what it could be?
Oxford area.

If the EGR valve has stuck open, that will cause rough lumpy idle.

Had the computer check-out - two injectors faulty! Replacement cost over £250 each! Does anyone know a good place to purchase replacements ? (I know a mechanic who can fit them OK)
Computer check about £35 not bad really.

Rycroft Mercedes in Oxford. I was suprised because they said it would be about £100. Maybe the results came in quick because they are obvious?

Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
If you get them replaced, keep the old ones. Insist on it. They may be repairable.

there are firms that sevice these things, Injectors cant be interchanged as they have to be matched to the ECU, its more normal to send them away for service and refit and re program.
I will look for the link later.

I am comming back to this one.

In the last 2 weeks we have had 2 threads for the same thing. MB replaced the injectors at almost £1k but problems still there.

I think the fault is more to do with the crankshaft sensor, but still re injectors.

I sat in on a seminar at the recent MechanicX where we were told to send the injectors away. I cant put my hand on the details, go to
www.automotivediagnostics.co.uk or ring 01772 201597 Email
enquires@automotivediagnostics.co.uk

Though these are not the injector people, they were doing the other seminar and are supurb with MB's.

I have purchased two new injectors from Rycroft at a (net) cost of about £210 each. The old ones have to be given back as exchange units. The mechanic I know says they take about an hour to change and there is no software work to be done. We'll see!

A soft ware identifier was intrduced in July 2000 and the injectors should lie within the specified group to allow for soft ware adjustments. After an injector has been replaced on a vehecle with a DK of version 0/5 or higher, the class must be assigned to the respective cylinder in the classification menu using STAR during control unit adaptation.
