M103 intake manifold, part missing? and wierd running

Had a problem with the alternator, fixed it and now having slight running problems.

At idle, usually is at 600 sometimes changes to 900, then 600 with occasional revs rising up to 1.2k and then back down to 600.

It cut out once while driving.

Also...occasionally when doing say 30mph, come off the throttle - and the revs don't drop for 8 seconds or so.

This is a M103 2.6 manual.

While looking at the OVP for clues (no obvious ones) I found the below part on the intake? it is sucking in air, what should be attached to it? (it is on the intake for cylinder 6, just before the injector - pic is at 90 degree angle to reality)

missing a blanking plug. the nipple is used for vacuume for the auto box!

I have blanked it now, sorted the poor idle out.
