Hi,
I would like opinions from personal experiences for exhaust tuning shops.
Car is a cls500 m113 and everyone who has been in this model's cabin will agree that there isn't any proper sound coming from the engine (in the cabin) no matter how hard you will push the engine.
I am thinking of a cat back solution since I want to keep the catalysts (for many reasons and especially for environmental issues and ethics).
I have watched a lot of videos with resonator delete with an X pipe or straight pipe or rear mufflers delete etc and from what I read everyone has his own opinion. Some will say that a resonator delete will produce drone noise in specific rpms others say they cannot hear any drone noise. When I was looking to buy my car I had the experience of a rear mufflers delete and I cannot say I was totally pleased with what I was hearing. This option will also reduce exhaust gas' exiting speed from the system which I believe will provide a less torque production in low rpms.
Anyway, any suggestions for exhaust shops in Herts or Essex area welcome.
Thank you in advance

Why don't you just rip out all of the sound proofing that MB designed into the car to reduce noise.

my mate has the same car and has an x-pipe fitted , I feel that its just right , it has a lovely waffle with no extra vibes or unwanted drone in the cabin

Usually deleting the resonator and installing an X pipe you end up with drone, no?
My goal is to give raspiness like the AMG sound and a nice burble sound in low rpms.
I would go with a rear silencers delete but I am worried that I may end up with a blare sound that's just loud

Our 230 has secondary cat delete and X-pipe (previous owner). Definitely louder than normal but not unpleasantly so.
My 119 has resonator delete only and has a very American sound to it. Deep throaty rumble down low but it howls at the top end. Can be tiring after several hours (but both cars will be louder than yours anyway as they have less sound deadening).
One thing to be aware of - both SLs go to a single pipe over the rear axle so an X-pipe is of limited value.

Thanks, I believe that CLS500 goes on dual piping after resonator till the end so X pipe should work, if not mistaken.
I was 100% sure that I would go for a resonator delete but after all this reading and videos watching I found that the issue with a resonator delete is that it doesn't produce the expected loud sound, as stated from owners that have done it and then proceed with other alternatives.
Apologies for all these long posts

I have found CLS C63 rear mufflers and thinking of purchasing them. As said before main idea is to have a nice raspiness like the AMG models. Do you think that this would be a better choice than of installing aftermarket mufflers?

Those mufflers will give the sound you want and will be a far better option than aftermarket boxes.
If they are not a perfect fit a good exhaust shop like Torqueflow can adjust hangers etc to ensure they are evenly balanced.

Will they even fit?

I have read online that C63 AMG mufflers were installed in 2 cases on w219 cars.
I have found rear mufflers from C63 and cls63 models. I believe that especially the ones from w218 should fit with minor mods.
As AMGeed proposes , if its too complicated for an unexperienced exhaust shop then I will find someone with decent skills. Less than an hour driving is a shop named fast lane styling. I wonder if someone had any experience with these guys.

An update on this, I finally ordered used 218 CLS C63 AMG rear mufflers. They are now delivered and next thing is to polish the tips and to find a proper shop near me for installation

Today, when stopped raining, I tried to polish the tips with autosol metal polish cream. Also used some würth brake cleaner to remove some carbon within the tips (didn't achieve much)
On Monday, I will try a shop close to me that fits custom exhausts and told me that they can handle it (via phone). I have seen within their shop few modified MERCs and one racing typeR but we will see in practice

mini update, both exhaust shops I tried they couldn't do it. fact is that new mufflers have different shapes so after lifting the car and with the first look they gave they didn't want to proceed to a thought or a solution.
just quoted empperformance and waiting (lady who answered my phonecall said this is the best way for them to check).

If you get stuck, Imran at Torqueflow will get them to fit. Best fabricator I have seen and willing to do whats needed.
Well worth the trip to Birmingham and a chance to see what MSL Performance can do to increase your engine performance.

Two in one trip? Not a bad idea. I have contacted MSL and have a quote for dyno, non Dyno and also somewhere locally to my area to avoid the trip. Although I guess that a dyno before and after is the best way to do it

Get Torqueflow to fit the tips then next door for RR and map in MSL, sounds like an excellent plan to me

It's not only tips it's the complete rear mufflers.
Today I went to another custom exhaust shop (with appointment) which I found online and on eBay too (lots of offers and several options online).
I spend 1h to go and 1h to wait to finish other cars in front of me. then 30' to check it and inform that the new mufflers won't fit under my car. And of course about 1h to return home with zero results.
Fact is that my mufflers have triangle short shape with oval tips and the new ones (from w218) have flat rectangular longer shape with the trapezoidal tips .
All shops have declared that they cannot fit them although I was telling them, as option, to be installed in an angle and not parallel with the road and of course the tips to be curved in order to stay parallel with the road. Maybe it seems big job for them.
They also started excuses that the new mufflers are for larger engine and I won't have the raspiness I want and also the sound will be more muted with them which sound to me like b.llsh.t since we all know that AMG silencers permit a more free flow than other standard mufflers.
They tried to convince me that they can give me custom mufflers that will achieve the raspiness I want but after me insisting if they are sure for the result and that it won't be a blunt sound with no character they said that it is engine dependable the raspiness.
Totally confused and worried that they might not fit. Will call Birmingham probably and try to explain the situation since I don't want to see myself driving all these hours without a result.
