Hi

I am about to go into a expense of buying a new magnetic clutch for the Kompressor.
Does anyone have instructions of how to replace this unit .
Is there by any chance that the clutch is ok and something else is causing for the clutch not to activate. The code i got is P0806.

Please help

Somebody on here has done this within the last 12 months.
Do a search for Kompressor and I am sure you will find it.

I had the clutch fail on my 1999 CLK 230K before the days I wised up to MB stealership tactics and the wisdom available on this forum. I accepted the stealer's advice that a complete kompressor unit was the only option. Luckily I managed to get 50% parts and labour goodwill from MB which softened the blow. In this case it was a failure of the clutch bearings. The clutch would still engage but with a nasty screeching noise.

I also had a failure later of the kompressor to cut in, this turned out to be a loss of the ECU signal to activate the clutch so I would advise you to have that signal checked out and not rely on the fault code alone. By that time I had wised up and it was diagnosed by Andy Gayle, a well respected independant on here.

Good luck, Jim

Thanks Jim

So this could be a electrical problem and not the clutch. The problem is that the Kompressor is not kicking in , no noises . I had The MAS replaced a few months back and that did not help. I had my codes read and it shows a P0806 , P0170 and also a under or overvoltage circuit 15R

Can you tell me more.

Thanks

I cannot interpret the codes I am afraid, Perhaps someone like "Television" may be able to help there.

In my case the code was actually saying the air valve was faulty but it wasn't, it was the ECU failing to send the signal to the clutch.

The electrical connector to the clutch is hidden under the plastic cover at the front of the cylinder head cover which just pulls off. The ECU sends an earth signal to the clutch to engage it, this according to Andy Gayle who sorted the problem on my car. Unfortunately that meant a new ECU but members such as Jberks have since said these can be repaired.
