Does anyone know of a good independent Mercedes garage/dealer in the Greater Manchester area of the UK?

I'm looking for a E class W124, probably a 6 cylinder E280. I spoke to one independent who won't stock 6 cylinders because they are too thirsty.
What's the mog on these cars?

mpg 280 w124 series

hi according to a book of general fuel consumptions the w124 6 cylinder 280 2799cc straight 6 runs on unleaded and does between21 and 34 miles per gallon. however the earlier 300 6 cylinder is quoted here as slightly better at 23 to 37 miles per gallon.
hope this is of some use to you

The 23 mpg figure is accurate, that's what i get all the time, but i'd kill to get 37!!

A dealer who doesn't stock 6 cylinder mercs does not sound like the sort of dealer you want to listen too!

Hello,

The fuel consumptions on W124 6 cylinder engine, is not very high, I have a E300, and live in Manchester central. :D

I can say, I never see any independent garage do Mercedes within 15mile area to the city centre, but I knew that, one garage near Lymm ( I think u know where...) next to A556, on left hand side when u travel toward Manchester, they do Mercedes, but don't know whether they have W124...

Just another thing come up to my head, may be a good method for u, I know a garage (an auto engineer, not sale), he is my good friend, he service and maintain many Mercedes and other make of car, he also do some car sale, may be is good to ask them to looking for a clean one for u... he is located in Manchester central, opposite to the rear gate of BBC.

Hope these could help...

GaryC!

Consumption on my W124 260E (1987) goes down to 25.5mpg or up to 30.5mpg.

The dealer is on the A556 (by a pub called the White Swan at Bucklow Hill) just by the turning to Knutsford. But they seem to have mostly newer (97+) ones C-class and E-class. I also don't think they do repair and service work, but I may be wrong.

The closest specialist for repair work I have found is SPR Autos in Macclesfield (01625 511361), or Merx in Stoke-on-Trent (01782 266020). There is also one north of Manchester somewhere near Rossendale (01706 852221), but it is too far for me.

Oooops. I was wrong. The Bucklow Hill place (Bucklow Garage - 01565 830327 or www.bucklow.co.uk) DOES sell older cars and it DOES do servicing.

I went in over the weekend and it has 3 or 4 W124 cars, with the oldest being an H reg, and they also have a W124 coupe.

They also do servicing. For a C200 would charge £130 (incl) for a 9k service, £165 (incl) for a 18k service and an extra £75 (incl) for the gearbox oil/filter change. They said a bit extra (circa £20) for the 6-cylinder cars.

Has anyone used them and can recommend their servicing?

Bucklow Hill Garage, A556 Chester Road

I purchased my '89 190E from here nearly three years ago and I've used them since, apart from my own servicing, for a couple of small jobs ( replacing a non-standard fuel filter, and renewing both auto box coolant pipes ) and on each occasion the reception was both businesslike and courteous. They seem to have established a sizeable clentele of repeat customers from all over the UK.
When ( and If ) it comes time to change my car, I will definitely return to see what they have available.
