Your Mercedes
58 ML-320CDI.
Hello to all of you, I have just bought my first Mercedes after some bad experience with Landrover (Discovery V8 - once bitten).

Does anyone have, or can they direct me towards a workshop manual for an ML-270 CDI (02). I have found some CD's on flea-bay but they only seem to cover the petrol variants.

Are these generally fairly reliable, as my neighbour said oh no, you'll be forever in the dealers with that.

Hi Mark,

Welcome to this forum, good to have more 4x4'ers, force in numbers to fend off the anti-4x4 brigade

Generally speaking, the ML's seem reliable, at least no more unreliable than the rest of the Mercs circa this period. Some of the earlier models seemed to suffer a lot of problems, ie 1998-2000, albeit I have a ML270 which I bought brand new from 12/2000 and it has been very reliable until this year, when a set of events cumulated in me finding a production fault. A fair few people on this forum have ML270's, so wether its the engine, gearbox, running gear etc, someone should be able to help.

To keep the cost of ownership to a minimum, you need to find a reliable, reasonably priced dealership, or better still, a good Mercedes Independent Specialist (or indie) who generally charge 50% of a dealership.

There great cars, I've been toying on and off about buying a new one, but I always tend to err on the side of my trusty ML, so should give a little indicator as to there worth.

Just to add, re: workshop manual, no such thing is available, albeit you can buy from Ebay, the WIS (Werkstatt Information System), which is what Mercedes Dealerships use, along with the Electronics Part Catalogue which diagrams and numbers each part of each system within your car. If you look for Mercedes WIS and EPC on Ebay, youll find sellers. Alternatively, the EPC is available on-line at http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb.asp
