Just been chatting on my retired website about extended car warranty's. A guys has been quoted £43P/M for a 3 year old GLE from MB.
Someone else said good value he paid £400 for anti roll bar bushes on one side at MB? Pattern parts are about £10.

For me it wasn't bad, but that was 20 years ago. My wife's was 5 times better than mine 5 yers ago.

Just needs some thought. Warranty will likely not include 'wear' items such as any bushes, friction surfaces, fluids etc.
The rest of the car's major components are covered if they break by consumer rights up to around 6 years.
Add that to the fact that in general terms MB don't break that easily, and think that MB have worked out carefully that they 'shouldn't' lose out.
Almost certainly the MB warranty will require all service and work to be done by MB?

Depending on the tier the warranty can be ok esp of the car is electronically loaded.

Wear and tear not covered.

Pattern parts at 10 quid a pop - you get what you pay for. Buy genuine but dont get MB to do the labour.

^ Mercedes have done away with different Tier warranties.
It's one size fits all, and its damn expensive.

Mercedes quoted me £2850 for just 12 months which is laughable.
I wouldn't be able to claim anyway as I have a remap, but that price is insane.

Totally ridiculous 2850. Sometimes I think MB assume customers have a tree in the garden growing notes.

But also covers my point in part. cars now are electrically loaded. Imagine the cost of replacing the centre console in the latest s class. Warranty is like insurance. Collect from 100s of punters to payout on a few and bank the rest

There are instances where having a warranty is a lifesaver. Just this week on the other forum, yet another M156 has a head bolt issue with coolant leaking, probably into the sump. The owner, without a warranty is probably looking at a £7k+ bill.

For my part, if I had close on £3k to put away every year, I'd do that instead of buying an expensive warranty that has a small chance of being called upon. Horses for courses and there is no right or wrong IMO.

Again it's worth remembering if something breaks before it should (reasonable expectation) then it comes under sale of goods and should be fit for purpose.

In many instances this is around 6 years e.g. Gearbox conductor plates, most electronic modules etc, seatbelt pretensioners, head bolts, etc

I work on the idea that if it gets serviced it has a recognised service life and should meet that.

My god Roger that’s insane - I was paying £1050 ish and IMO at that worth doing. Famous last words ( I hope not) but the 157 seems bomb proof so far...in your position I’d agree with what you’re doing !

When I first went on the warranty website for a quote, it was £2650 for a 12months.
In the meantime I got it remapped and went back to see if it was still the same price.
Nope. It had risen by £200.
Either the dealers have had lots of warranty claims, or they just don't want warranty work, which for them, generates zero income.
Already a silly price, I'm surprised if they sell any warranties now. I think the older W204 C63 is the same price.

Mine was around 700 for 66 E class S213

Recently, lower control arm bushings squeaking like a ... you know what. Mercedes said they would not contribute as ‘wear and tear’ however, said the extended warranty would’ve covered this ???? Both sides gone at the same time

Probably due to stored cookies on the website akin to when looking at flights. Price seems to magically 1 hour later because big brother is watching you.

I’m very impressed with the BMW extended warranty offering, three levels of cover with respective costs, the costs can be mitigated with an excess option.

My IL6 4 series was showing symptoms of a sticking valvetronic drive motor towards the end of the one year second hand purchase warranty so I booked it in for a diagnosis, no fault codes were stored but the tech did run a full mechanical test of the motor putting it through 200 cycles and all seemed good.

Being new to the car and still unsure whether the valvetronic motor issue would manifest itself I opted to extend the warranty for a year which for full cover came in at £320 plus a £250 excess, needless to say the issue went away and I can only put it down to the engine being tight (5000 miles when bought) and never really opened up in it’s life to loosen it off.

I didn’t have a recurrence of the issue so didn’t renew the warranty again but if I did the miles I probably would have in my view a much better proposition than the MB offering

Agreed- even my i8 was 'only' 1k a year, considering all the tech onboard I of course did it!

Always good to see manufacturers display confidence in the brand and accept risk in their products certainly keeps vehicles within the franchise longer with associated benefits on both sides - MB can do better on extended warranty IMO or is the quality just not good enough nowadays

As an update, I've purchased the extended warranty on the Merc. 776 for the year however, it was more expensive as the warranty had lapsed. The guy on the phone said that it would be around 400 scoobies if I renewed next year, which isn't bad to be fair (for zero excess). Warranty starts 30 days from yesterday ... Let's just hope the Mercedes doesn't have fun and games with me Haha.
