My phone did not stop ringing the week that news story broke. BBC points west covered it as did the national press. I am surprised you have only just seen it. MB Bristol offered the customer £1500 to keep quiet but he had to sign a non disclosure contract. He refused and went to the press.

Well, no one has been party to the full conversations.

It seems they took action to apologise and compensate the customer which was rejected. Then they told him to find another dealer to look after his car. Seems fair game to me.

There is 2 sides to this. The tech was a bell and shouldn't have used a punters car for his own use as well as driving it as he did. By the same token, the customer could have been a little more forgiving if an olive branch was offered. Sytner became piggy in the middle and I am not sure what more they could have done, they sacked the bloke, offered an apology and compensation.

No one came out covered in glory put it that way.

Is this why garages don't like dashcams left on in the car?

If you had a plumber or another tradesman working in your home I dont think they would want you to film them.

I had a vehicle fitted with a GPS tracker. It coukd be set to send an SMS message when any of several configurable triggers was breached, one of which was speed. I set the alert to 50 when I lent it to a mate (but didn't tell him although he did know it had a tracker). Sure enough I got a text even though he was only supposed to be in 30 zones so I showed him the text when he came back. He was a bit sheepish to say the least!

had a similar thing happen here last year , a pal of mine had a V8 M3 , went in to a local garage for a small amount of work , one of the mechanics was bragging about doing 140mph in it down the by-pass ! unfortunately for said mechanic , I was party to this conversation and passed it on to the owner , needless to say the garage lost a good customer and had to hire another mechanic

I think I would have taken the £1500,the tech shouldn't have taken the car but no harm done.

If MB Bristol had proper procedures in place to start with the tech wouldn't have been allowed to take the car in the first place without good reason other than joy riding.

"No harm done". Well thats ok then!!

Or the technician didnt follow the procedures. I doubt he was given permission to go joy riding.

Is that the calibre of mechanic MB Bristol employ, he sounds like a total unintelligent yob to me.
Whenever I take my CL500 to the local MB Dealership I tell them under no circumstances are they to road test my vehicle, I will do any road testing that is needed and they have never had a problem with my request.

I'd have no problem with a mechanic road testing any of my cars, as long as they were respectful towards them and it was necessary- which it sometimes is.

After viewing the YouTube footage I would have no idea how a mechanic you don't know would respect or test drive your vehicle, you don't unless he happens to get caught out on social media.
Many years ago I worked next to a MB Dealership and you would not believe the way some of the mechanics treated the vehicles.
