MB Warranty

Hi all, I took the car in for a recall on the gearbox and asked for the brakes to be checked at the same time as they were spongey and not performing properly.

The front discs and pads were changed about a month ago by an inde. I told the garage this, and Service Manager said he would have to charge me for the brake bleed, as the inde had worked on the brakes and they were out of warranty.

Anyways, it turns out the bleed nipple on one of the calipers was seized on and broken. MB dealer didn't charge me for the pressure bleed, but said I need to go back to the inde and get the nipple sorted. Went there and was told it will be chargeable. I wouldn't budge and neither would they, so I walked away. Both parties deny damaging the part.

Apologies for the life story :)

Does my car no longer have a warranty on it due to this work by the Independent garage, or should my car still be in warranty until it is up in September?

BUMP :)

How much could I expect to pay for a caliper fitted by an Indie? I called a couple and they said it may need the caliper replacing but needed the chassis number to quote. I provided it to one company and they never called me back.

Did you check with your MB dealer for a price for the parts?
There is an on-line parts from MB here

Technically, your warranty stands. However, a snapped brake nipple isn't really down to MB. If anything goes, provided they can't show negligence on the part of the garage, the warranty stands. The nipple isn't really a warranty item though. If the radio goes or the ECU packs in, you're still covered - according to the EU anyway.

Personally I would have kept quiet and if necessary, denied it had been anywhere. Chances are they wouldn't have asked and have just done the work.

Very true, I was daft for saying anything really. I'll get this work done and go elsewhere :)
