No money in an oil and filter. Also, if he isn't doing any checks, the extra work they may pick up on will not get done.
I can see his point..

Wayne was always polite and extremely helpful with me.
Personalities can clash sometimes I suppose.
I can also see his point of not wanting a £100 job when the workshop is already stacked out.

I'm with AA .... if the garage is doing the MOT they could have quote for anything they'd picked up on. Barry just wanted an oil & filter change done on top.

To be fair, i missed he was having an mot at same time.
The garage doesn't want the work for some reason..

I’m not totally sure but I think they farm out the MOT work. They used to IIRC

He wanted £125 + oil + Filter + MOT + VAT and he could do it Wednesday.

That says to me he wasn't busy, as I only called in yesterday.

No thanks.

Seems perfectly fair to me. One hour labour plus parts plus the MOT billed separately.
What did you expect?

An Indi charging £125 per hour?

I could be wrong, but I don't think main dealers charge that.

Not sure where it says 125 per hour, but i assume this is the charge for doing the oil and filter change and possibly taking/returning the car from the MOT station.
The oil and filter charge is on top as is the MOT.
Guess its just too much work for the bloke to warrant 125 quid.
I wouldnt deal with someone who is too proud to earn an honest buck.

Bottom end of the market then. That’s the going rate for a pint in the Chelsea Potter!

I must admit, I've always done my own work, can't remember the last time a garage worked on a car of mine, but I'm getting a bit old now, so one day I'm going to have to bite the bullet.

Did you consider Kwik Fit for this technically difficult service?

I wanted an MOT and an oil and filter change only, said he wouldn't do just an oil/filter change, needed to check the car over, all oil/liquids etc. - I said I do that myself, said he wasn't interested in doing just oil/filter change.

Due diligence IMO. I have a mechanic friend who is the same, it is all about the litigeous society we live in they have to cover their backs

I think I would probably take umbrage at being asked to do just the MOT and oil change with the customer telling me he does the rest - i.e.: he was just offering me the scraps.
