Wondering if anyone can help me a little - my husband drove my car on a short journey over the weekend and said that my car is making a whisping noise (he's a BM driver, so I wonder sometimes... anyway...) I listened and I could hear the whisping but only slightly hubby thinks it might be the tyres - but just wondered if anyone else has this and if its normal - everything else is perfect with my car so he's got me a tad nervous now....

Hey malcolm! Hope ur well? Sorry 4 the lack of description i thought u merc enthusiasts knew it all, ok its when I drive normally, whispy comin frm underneath the car not sure if its front or back 2 b honest but it doesn't get loude
r it stays the same and u have 2 have the window down with no music on and really listen 4 it. I thought that if it was serious I wud have had a malfunction appear but nothing. So cud it b the sound of my car? My brakes are new and they can b squeaky in wet weather mostly but noticed them today in the sun being squeaky cud that have something 2 do with it? Other than that the car is perfect and a dream 2 drive esp with the sun now out!

What you are hearing is the ghosts of all the BMW drivers whispering with envy as you pass over them.

Hummm I did wonder if it was just the husband - however I am now paranoid as I had a proper listen to it on the way to work this morning and its a ticking sound tick, tick, tick, tick, tick the faster I go the faster it ticks.... When I rev the engine stationary its fine sounds soooo good I can feel the power of engine :p Just dont want it to be a serious issue and also dont want it getting worse thats if it even is something? Would the car electronics system pick up this type of malfunction or should is it worth just getting it checked out by MB technician guys?

If you are concerned I would take it to a local indie to put on the ramp and see if there is anything amiss underneath. They could also read the ECU codes and see if anything has been recorded.

I wouldnt worry about the odd tick/hiss. They come and go. If you are really concerned them go to the local merc mechanic to get your car on the ramp and move the wheels to see if it is coming from any particular wheel etc etc

Good luck

Thank you lovely people - you just never know do you - never really listened to the little noises until hubby drove it and mentioned it (never normally let him but I was hungover so couldn't even speak let alone drive). Anyway I went on the net and tried to self diagnose eeekkkk there's all sorts of stuff on there - exhaust leak, bolts, lifter, piston slapping (strange name !!!). I think I'll take you're adice and go to a mechanic to see if they spot anything just to be on the safe side. Being a natural worrier it'll eat away at me!!!
