Hello new here, your thoughts please
2weeks ago I suffered a loss of drive to the rear wheels, the problem was gradual initially and could be reset by restarting the car. After a couple of resets the problem worsened and I lost drive completely and had to be recovered off the M25 to Mercedes Watford, when the problem occoured the manual shift was unavailable it was stuck in drive.
Watford Merc diagnosed the prob they have the readouts and changed oil and gearbox filter for a sum total of £360. Anyway the car was delivered back to me in Somerset only to find on delivery, faults showing on dash. The fault was "take to workshop" "brakes" the brake lights were permantly on. Also I found the fuse box cover loose in the boot and the trim above the drivers side footwell all loose.
The car was then taken to Merc Taunton who found a wiring prob in the front fusebox causing the brake indication but on test driving it was running roughly so a further diagnostic reveals 2 new injectors needed. So after not having had the car for a week and breaking down with no faults other than the gearbox a further bill for over £700
The saga continues, rerturning from work in Luton the gearbox fails in a spectacular fashion with all drive lost immediately, I should add only 170 miles driven since Watford made the original repair. I'm now told by Taunton that there is metal showing in the autobox oil and a new box is needed at circa £3500
I'm a little taken aback at this.
Watford have already reimbursed me the full bill because the car was delivered back with faults.
Your thoughts please is it worth chasing Watford for misdiagnosing the problem? could they have foreseen the terminal failure of the gearbox?
Are there any independant gearbox specialists who can do a rebuild who will guarantee the work and at what cost?
Hope I havent ranted to much.
