On my 1998 210 3ltre diesel the yellow glow plug light comes back on after starting for about 30 seconds and then goes out. Does this mean that one of the glow pugs is failing or could it be a faulty warning light. The mileage is 150000 but it start on the button every time.

Yes, one or more of the plugs is faulty.

Plugging into a diagnostic computer will identify which, although with the TD engine best to replace all as the manifold has to come off.

At least one.

Check their resistance values between the connector on the glow plug relay and a good earth.

If you find that you need to replace one or more, take great care - they snap in place very easily, making a simple job a nightmare!

I thought so. What is the average likely charge for an indie to replace all 6 glowplugs.

not the quickest of jobs to do. inlet manifold needs removed to access them. id guess around £200. depends mainly on whether they come out and the labour rate of your local indy! a parts factor local to me supplied NGK glow plugs for my car for about £11 each if that helps

you'll also need replacement breather plastic bungs aswell because they almost always break when you try to remove them if they are old.

They're rubber - until they harden, and begin to feel a bit more like plastic! - and, they are only fitted to normally aspirated OM606s, so your turbo wouldn't have had them.

The other thing is the plastic clamps for the metal injector pipes should be renewed - a few of them will more than likely already be broken - they become brittle with age.
