Regarding my potential purchase of a C Class Sports Coupe 200K, I intend to have the Evolution Sports Pack, Metallic Paint, Folding Mirrors and Parktronic. Anyone consider any of these a bad buy?

I have never owned an auto before and do not particularly wish to, but have seen that most authorised used Mercs are autos. Presumably there is no reason why I should not have a manual Sport Coupe and presumably it will not be a 'lemon' when I come to sell it?

A friend says I should have leather - I have also never had leather before. How practical is it? Do you have to be really careful and not put anything else on the seats apart from yourself or is it as tough as cloth? Does it require any maintenance? Would my car be a 'lemon' when I come to sell it if I didn't have leather?

Thanks for your time - I hope I don't appear naive!

Mercs, in general, need leather & auto.
Early days to know whether the C SCoupe is as sensitive, but I won't even think about buying without.
Parctronic is good, but its not exactly a big car is it? Was essential on my CLK Cab, but I'd leave it off a SC. Ditto electric mirrors - waste of time.
Evo pack a good idea - looks good and will be an advantage on resale. Same is true of Met Paint.
Think about the total price you'll pay - wouldn't you rather have a CLK in the first place?

It is generally accepted that the MB manual box is not particularly sweet.Personally I have experienced both Auto & Manual & consider the new electronic auto boxes are excellent. Many more MBs are auto & this is a consideration when it comes to selling a car.

I have a C200K 6 speed manual and I would not buy another Merc without A/T.

When I test drove the car before buying I thought the 'box was every bit as good as a BMW. Living with the car for the past 2 months has proved it is not.

Every second day the transmission will baulk going into some gear, particularly reverse or first. I have driven others and realise it isn't a fault with my own car.

I also think that the autobox/sequentronic suit the nature of the car better than manual trans.

Sequentronic

Does anyone know as to whether the latest E-Class sequentronic is better than the previous implementations? I'm considering this as it has lower emissions than the auto and therefore reduced company car tax. :?

New C Klass

A new C class is a very nice car, like you found, you can be spoilt for choice. When I bought mine in March this year, I could not find any argument for a manual gearbox so it had to be an auto. Even the dealer when in negotiations mentioned that auto was a standard (although at a cost for the SE package). I even looked at the used list and most if not all were auto.

With regard to leather, it is also expected when you look to buy a Mercedes. For me I had to balance the deal I was getting but as a rule both leather and auto are musts if the budget stretches. For me, I chose the SE package and I have no regrets. No leather was sacrificed for climate control.

If you can take the auto and leather do so, the rest you can argue in your mind.

Hi Craig,

would def. suggest auto with leather and climate control. Parking my C240 is pretty easy, so i dont think you'll need parktronic.

Folding mirrors are pretty useful I find, though you gotta take care of the leather seats!

Craig,

Auto or manual.....auto every time. Merc's manual boxes are pretty dire as they go.

Leather......no hardship with looking after it. I have two young kids who drop food and drink all over the car. With leather its just a case of wiping it down and ever so often giving it a wipe down with hide food to keep it nice and soft.

If I had had cloth my car would be wrecked by now.....living proof of this was a couple of weeks ago I picked up a curry takeaway and it leaked through the bag onto the front seat.........when I picked up the bag, in horror I saw a big yellow patch staining the front seat leather. I thought that I had ruined it for ever. I tried to wipe it off and it didn't budge...then used some kitchen cleaner in despiration and it cleaned it off a treat.

I'm surprised that the kitchen cleaner didn't bleach the leather...must have been lucky. Looking at the seat now, you can't see a thing!

If my seats had been cloth, nothing would have shifted a curry stain.

Cheers
