Hi everybody,i have the chance of acquiring an absolutely mint one owner FMBSH 64.000 miles W140 420 CL.It is being sold by the owner himself,it is very original with no damage or paintwork problems at all,it is just like new:D
I would like to add it to my collection but I am not to sure about the price:confused: The guy wants £8000 for it:confused: I have seen these a lot cheaper but there always seems to be issues with them ie,loads of owners, accident repairs, people buying them to sell on etc,it's not my car mate i'm selling it for a friend etc etc.I would very much appreciate the forums view on it:?: If I did purchase this car I would be keeping it long term and maintaining it's current condition.
Thank you all. Bob.

These are dream cars. Fabulous. Always been a fantasy of mine. Looks to die for.

Having said all that the price depends on age, which you don't give, as well as condition, which sounds to be excellent. A 1999 one with 64,000 miles would sell for the £8k price you give, or more, in good nick. If it is close to that age or less it sounds fair value. Bound to be a classic in time so condition is important.

I agree with Hawk on this as we both love the same types of cars.

As for the price, if its a good one thats the main thing,, the face lift was I think in 99 and 2002 the last one being the rear lamps change.
For what it cost new how can you put a price on it, the 2002's sell for £25k so at £8k why not.

Thanks for your thoughts on my prospective new purchase:D The car is a Jan 1997.One of these cars was sold on e-bay yesterday for £4,100 it was a 1993 500 CL with 68,000 fsh supposedly??,it looked ok but I wasn't a patch on the one I am looking at:confused: Another one was sold on e-bay about three weeks ago for £3,500,that was a 1994 500 CL with 145,000 miles on the clock.I think £8K is to much,I would be grateful for any more advice on this.

Mercedes Enthusiast Magazine have run at least one buyers guide on CL's. Might be worth seeing if you can get a back issue (if you have the time that is).

I think the price sounds like a good deal and I am just annoyed I am not being offered it at that. I always liked these and researched them and for a good one, that is a good price.

www.charlesironside.co.uk have a nice silver one to compare it to.

I was offered a 1998 CL420 with 60K in the summer, one local owner for £10000 and the guy could have sold it ten times over

This was my point ok £8k is money, but a good one is worth more than that, and always will be.

I agree with Malcolm, if it really is a nice one I would not be thinking about it.

That one at Charles Ironside is a nice example.

There is a good guide to buying them in a past Mercedes Enthusiast magazine I was reading the other day.

Imposing for sure!!!:D

Bob.

The e-bay ones were three or four years older than the one you are offered. Age and condition are all and number of owners and service record. If all these are good on the one you are offered it is pretty good value. You could offer him £7k? And see where it goes?

I was thinking more like 7K myself:?: I think I might try him at £7500.It is due an mot and a service,I am not sure if it is a big service at 10 years old 64,000 miles:?:

You realize now that when you put the 500 out to graze the battery will stay up and it will start every time, and the new CL will be crying in the garage saying "please charge me"

You are a hard man,but good luck, nice feeling isnt it ? :) :)

if that happens,I won't have any problem finding a hairdresser:rolleyes:

Bob.
P.S I am trying to keep the 500SEL'S wheels original with no re-painting,hence the lengths I am going to, to try and avoid it.They look pretty good at first glance......it's only when I get my electron microscope out I can spot the defects:rolleyes:
