2016 E-class Estate (S213) was in the garage today for a software update. Apple CarPlay kept crashing and I thought this was just part of software bugs. Turns out my cars not been updated since manf in 2016!

I assumed Merc updates would be done over the air or usb stick at home. Neither of these are true and they don’t even update the command system during A or B service. You have to specifically request it, and it will come at a cost. If you have Merc approved warranty, this will cover it only if you’re experiencing issues.

New features:
1. New camera view for 360
2. Use nav whilst on AppleCarplay
3. Bigger icon settings
4. New settings layout for things like ambient lighting

Previous version:

00.61.00.20

New version:

05.80.00.00

nice detail, I wouldn't expect an update on a car system, none of them bother in this country....

Bit concerned about you nav stuff, if that's year, week number, etc. what's with 18 15 a 2018 update to the nav software or 3 years old maps ?
Might be worth asking comand online about that....

Nav updates is the only things that is actually done over the air (OTA). I haven’t paid for it, so the updates would’ve installed the earliest map that is compatible with this update. I can go on Mercedes Me and pay for it, then the car will update.

Half tempted, but also it’s 150 smackers for 3 years. I’ve got apple maps for free however, doesn’t integrate with the car that well grrrr decisions!

I have often thought that it is pretty poor that veh mfrs effectively force you into paying for software updates.

Every other electical thing that I can think of offers free updates; phone, telly, TV..why are veh mfrs different?

My Dads 2018 Ford connects to the home WiFi, so when it’s parked up ... it downloads the update and installs when he’s driving. My previous BMW was available online and installed via USB.

What is a pain, is the updating of all the individual control systems. This doesn’t happen at all. They will just software update what you feel is having a problem, ie I had a problem with Intelligent beam and steering assist. Both these had significant updates... makes you wonder what else can be updated?

Steering assist seems more intelligent and the response time of blanking out upcoming traffic is a lot better.
