The update is NOT mandatory, it's optional.


it will be Mandatory for Mercedes Benz to make sure all vehicles are updated.... the morals of the drivers ensuring the fix is implemented will be variable

But more CO2 than you could shake a stick at as well as other pollutants when cleaning components are removed from exhaust systems which, if discovered ARE an MOT failure... 'People in glass houses' ? :rolleyes:


annual mileage and how much traffic congestion one causes of course is carefully left off the table? I haven't been in rush hour traffic 05:00 to 10:00 or 15:00 to 20:30 for 26 years.

yet 30 quid to kill everything on the planet as you jam up the roads as you circumnavigate the M25 for 4 hours a day is OK? but the bloke paying 1000 a year to do 6k miles on quite country lanes should be strung up?

….with cities across Europe considering bans on older models, ...in the UK, a diesel ban is less likely. Instead, many cities are expected to introduce charging zones that will limit or charge older diesels (and petrols) from entering during certain periods.

Such measures have already been taken in London, the recent toxicity ‘T-Charge’ adds up to £10:00 on top of the congestion charge for anyone visiting in an older diesel. Councils in London are also introducing diesel surcharges on parking permits and higher hourly parking rates for diesel drivers. New diesel taxes arrived in April 2020, affecting both private and company car owners, and in the long-run the Government will outlaw all diesels by 2040

Interestingly, I put up figures for the W205 C Class 250d, tested independantly some time ago and found to be very clean in the real world and well within the official test stats for that model, in fact, one of the cleanest cars on the road.
I don't see it on that list?
Plenty of other 250d's though, and various years that affect them too. All the same engine, but must have software different for every model?

I think if I was buying new car I would want to run that car long enough to see it does as specified before I paid for it.

We are developing tailored software updates for all of these versions. For example, we are developing a total of several hundred versions for the service actions we announced in 2017 for more than three million vehicles.



  • Since March 2017, Daimler AG has offered an improvement in NOx emissions for vehicles of the compact class (A, B, CLA, GLA) for one engine version (the diesel entry-level engine 160d/160 CDI/180d/180 CDI). The company also offers a software update for the V-Class.
  • Furthermore, at the National Diesel Forum in Berlin on August 2, 2017, a comprehensive package of measures was approved to improve air quality in inner cities. Two weeks before that, Daimler had already announced the extension of its ongoing voluntary service action (for compact cars and the V-Class) to more than three million vehicles.
  • In May 2018, the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) sent Daimler AG a directive on the model Vito OM622 1.6-liter diesel Euro 6, requiring the company to stop initial registrations and recall the relevant vehicles.
  • Following a constructive discussion at the Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) in June 2018, Daimler will conduct an extended recall for approximately 670,000 vehicles in Europe in consultation with the authorities.

I started to read this thread hoping to get clarity on the diesel software update.
Unfortunately, the thread has been hi jacked by a number of people spoiling for a fight.
I am really disappointed in the schoolboy jibes and name calling.
