Mercedes E250 Wastegate

Anyone know anything about TURBO WASTE GATE. Got engine management light come on and its driving really slugish with no power. Seems to be in limp mode. The garage states its the waste gate which could cost atleast £1600 if the whole unit is required. This sounds abit expensive to me???? A veiws or pointers to sort this.

Think they are referring to the turbo actuator? . (electronic devise) try to get part number they refer to and Google it

If your engine is higher output power 170/204hp engine has bi turbo which do have a waste gate. Sorry not know about repairing, I suggest some turbo specialist. It is known for sure that dealer will change whole turbo without even trying to repair anything in it.

...which garage did you use.
Did they have star, xentry to read the codes

Thank you for all the replies. Im beginning to learn that these days some mechanics do not actually look at the engine etc and just rely on the worse possible outcome via a diagnostic machine. After spending a bit of time searching around the engine and checking for anything obvious, I found a large split in an air outlet pipe which is opening up and releasing alot of air when putting foot on the accelerator. Going to get the pipe replaced which hopefully will rectify the problem and be alot cheaper.

Gee... change garage... boost pipe is 50-150€
