Hi.
When the engine of E280 is warmed up. It starts to surge on tick over between 500-750 revs (as if I was reving up and down ready to pull away fast at the lights). It is most noticeable when putting the car in reverse.

any ideas as to what this is.??

Could be a problem from the air-mass-flow sensor. Disconnecting it on some engines cases the symptoms you described.

but I agree with Andy. check the fault codes, because it could be anyone of a number of sensors.

Also, after a hard reset or sensor replacement, most ECUs will try to re-calibrate the idle speed and the result is what you describe. However, this should only last for 10 minutes or so.

Hi Chaps, thanks for the replys. It turns out to be the rubber  Vaccum Hose Pipe had a split in it so it was sucking in air.
