Mercedes Emissions Scandal?

Hey guys,

How real is this Mercedes Emissions Scandal?

I keep seeing things pop up on my phone Mercedes Emissions related so just googled it and low and behold there is so much content.

Is it just some fakes scandal or are Merc owners entitled to make a claim to seek compensation for misleading statistics?

There is a class action law suit going forwards for the owners of Mercedes Blue Tec diesels registered between 2007 / 2018. It is still to be decided I believe.

If they do pay anything out in the UK, it will not be anytime soon. I would wait to see how they get on with the test cases first.

MB in the US don't behave in the same way as the UK.
In the US SBC pumps have a 25 year warranty for example.
Different laws....

We have a 2010/60 CDI, apparently this qualifies. My dad had a chat with someone who was speaking with Law Firm, he was pushing him to go and register our car too, but I told him to hold off and thought I would ask you guys first.

Apparently there are several actions going on. I seem to recall @Blobcat mentioning he knows of two that have already been thrown out.

I'm struggling to see any justification as the way I understand it you can only claim for losses or costs and that would be difficult to prove.

Crawford no longer own the class action arm, it was sold to epiq a couple of years ago, FYI that CA got thrown out eventually And a couple more in other locations have also collapsed

Lawyers sniffing around for an opportunity to make money is what's in it.

I would strongly suggest anyone thinking about signing up read all the fine print very very carefully to ensure they can't be liable for costs in the event of failure or that the percentage paid in the (unlikely) event of success isn't so great as to make it not worthwhile.

The trouble with these things is you need a lawyer to read the small print, from what I’ve read the Law Firm bringing the class action against MB is insured by a third party but there is no ABSOLUTE guarantee that there would not be costs incurred by the claimants in the event that the ruling in the courts goes against. I won’t be signing up

This exactly. There really is no such thing as a no win no fee contract. MB apparently settled one of the class actions in the States out of court. Cost them squillions. UK actions will no doubt have different outcomes, as they always have.

That’s to the US government not people with the cars and that was settling out of court to avoid VW sized fines, they also weren’t using cheer software like VW but have admitted their testing is unrealistic for the real world application and have as such corrected their software to comply
