I nearly picked up a new car today................The dealer has managed to dent the car right on the crease of the rear wheel arch. I pointed it out, and was told that they would repair it. To me, it looks like a new wing and paint job. I'm not having that. And, they weren't sure how long it would take as they are quite booked up!. When I asked how long to get me another car, I was told it would be 3 - 4 months! AND, the car was filthy - smeary polish marks on the paint, and opaque windows. Meanwhile, they have 50 grand of our money in their bank.

Oh, and this Surrey dealer won 'dealer of the year' 3 years running. Unbelievable!

What would you lot do?

Get your money back and go else where, no way do you take a car with paintwork done on it, If you bought it and wanted to sell it later on or PX they would knock money off as it had been painted. How many miles on the clock ?

I have forgoten what the car was that you have bought,or was buying.

Malcolm - it's a brand new E320 CDi Estate costing 50 grand optioned to the eyeballs. I'm so peed off with their attitude, I am tempted to get my money back and start again, maybe at MBworld as it's only up the road.

Just my four penn'orth, but unless they can stump up a new car within a week or so you should get your money back and go elsewhere. However well they repair the damage they caused, it will certainly affect the residuals. Another option is getting them to knock a lot of money off. But personally, I would not want a new car which had already been damaged in the showroom!

ba9rn - I'm with you on all that. They reckon they can smart repair the dent, but it crosses a crease line in the panel.

That is AWFUL and absolutly disguisting behaviour from what is considered a "dealer of the year", makes me wonder what the others are like!

It sounds a joke for you to accept a brand new car for the price you paid when they've damaged it. You may as well buy a 2nd hand one!

I would complain, and wouldn't accept the car.

They should give you something nice to cruise in while you have to wait months. :D

Hmmm, interesting. I ordered the car from Hindhead and Mark the salesman was superb and we got a good deal. But todays experience at G/ford has shocked and saddened me. I accept that accidents and mistakes can happen, but it is how it is dealt with that makes all the difference, and today, they were way off the radar on customer service. I have no confidence in them now, I mean they can't even polish a poxy car properly!

I havent bought a brand new car for 15 years, but if I was, it would need to be in pristine condition. As others have said get your money back and run. Unless they are going to give you a huge reduction in price that would cover any depreciation the repair would bring down on you.
As for not noticing the repair I have a friend in the trade who is unbelievable at spotting repairs done . No matter how small and insignificant.

I wouldn't even accept a knockdown. I wanted a brand new car, and that what I would get!

I'm just very stubborn!

Yes, that was my point. Unless the car is completely re-sprayed (and they will not do that for what they will consider to be minor damage), it will be spottable by an expert.

You should speak to the manager. You can give him a choice - either he gives you a nice car until they have found you a brand new alternative (I bet if the have to give you a car in the mean time, it will be available quicker than you have been quoted), or you walk away with the cash. Put the ball in their court.

I can see any new paint work by the texture, you just put your eyes along the side and look along the side, the spraying angle, Paint ratio will not be the same.
