Model : MERCEDES-BENZ GLC 300 4MATIC AMG LINE 5 door Estate Petrol Automatic 1991cc

I have bought this car in Octiber 2020 as brand new from a Mercedes dealer. Within 30 days of purchase , the car started giving the warning

"Mercedes me connect: battery monitor – charge status critical "

Warning message:

The starter battery charge status of the vehicle AA99XYZ is critical.
To ensure that the vehicle is able to start, please connect a battery charger or drive the vehicle for 30 to 60 minutes.
When using the battery charger, please observe the notes in Owner's Manual in your vehicle.

Eventhough I am driving he car for 30 mins a day , this warning is coming frequently.

I have given the car to the dealer for thorugh check up, they said no problem with the battery, wires, etc. But the warning is still coming.

I am so worried and frustrated about Mercedese and don't think Mercedese GLC is fit for my purpose.

Could you some one advise is it normal on all the new model Mercedes ?

What is the return policy in Mercedes other dealers ?

Thank you

Hello and welcome,

How often are you using it? Car systems are pretty complex these days and many systems - including the "Mercedes Me" that is telling you your battery is low is using power all the time...

If you're using it everyday for a sustained drive then there is likely to be an issue with the battery

If you're using once per week or every other week then your battery could do with a battery conditioner to keep it charged

There are a couple of things you could check that might help focus the further discussion that I suspect you need to have with your dealer. Firstly, do you get a "battery critical" warning in the vehicle itself? If not, it might just be the Mercedes Me being over-sensitive. Secondly, have you monitored the battery status on the app? The sequence would be charged/partially charged/critical. If it is going straight to "critical" that would provide further evidence of a battery fault.

Have you measured the battery voltage when it is at rest, say when it has not been started for 6 hours?

Dealer checked three times sof far, and said all looks good. They also said that GLC has designed to to drive frequently. But I am not convinced that Mercedes designed a car which needs a cumpulsory drive for every week.

My friends GLC350 never had battery issues and did less than 3 k miles in a year. Take it back and tell them to replace the battery or test the system for parasitic drain

Doesn’t sound right to me. My GLC hasn’t been used for two weeks. I did a 15 mile round trip this morning and the stop/start was working before I got home again and the battery has to be pretty well charged for that to happen.

My sister has the GLC250 and it was stood outside for five weeks while she went to New Zealand a couple of years ago and it started fine when she got back,

The battery could also be removed from the car (sensitive electronics) and load and capacity/capacitance tested. I would want to know what Mercedes are doing to test the car systems. Have they checked the alternator for output! sounds like a poor battery. Don't be fobbed off by them, insist they keep it for a few days to check the car whilst supplying you with a loan car.

The return policy is governed by Consumer Protection Act - no car dealer of whatever make can over ride legislation, despite the fact that they seem to try and get away with it. Dealers feign ignorance of the law or try and ignore it all the time. Might be worth having a read of the CPA to get the message across to the dealer.

If it is going from charged to critical within 24 hours there must be a fault somewhere.

So as I read and understand this thread...
Car starts and performs as expected with no red or orange warning indicators presented on the dash!
Mercedes me electronic gizmo keeps spitting it's dummy out screaming check battery warnings!

This is reminiscent of the Little Britain sketch, "Compu'er says Noooo"

Unplug the Mercedes Me adapter, file it and see what happens then.

New Mercedes have the "Mercedes Me" built in... so they can track the car in case they have to recover it because the lease isn't being paid...

Aah I see, said the blind man, what a can of worms that could be? so I would agree with the opinions of others here, MB need to fix it or change it, the OP needs to put his boxing gloves on! :)

Yes, new Mercedes has so many new features, like Mercedes Me, Geo Fencing, Sim card, etc. In that case, I strongly beleive if Mercedes adds new features then they should have Calculated / esitimated the 12V Startup battery usage / capacity and provided the Capable startup battery.

If a new car battery provides problem form the 30th day, and again every day driving also throws CRITICAL battery warning, and on top of all , the Mercedes Service couldnt find any issue after three times troubleshooting and analysis concludes there is a fundemental manufacturing defect in the model.

If you only drive for 30 minutes that may not be quite long enough to keep your battery topped up, starting takes a chunk out of the battery and if you drive along in stop start traffic, heaters on, heated seats on then it may not quite bet getting back what was taken out of it. The dealer may be right that there isn’t an issue per say but it could be that with all the tech now in the car you just need to use it a bit more or invest in a charger to go one once a month.

i would have thought the first thing the dealer would do was to make sure the battery was fully charged?
