In line with SlinkyJoe's and Omni's polls, it would be a useful indicator to see how reliable our Mercs really are. Ive split it into three sections:

pre 96, 96-2003 and 2004-

with three choices per section:

Reliable - only ever had normal services and wear & tear replacements.
Average - the odd small failure not related to wear & tear.
Un-reliable - serious failures, such as new gearbox, new turbo/cats etc.

Please bear in mind your cars age and judge accordingly. ie. a pre 96 doing 200,000 miles needing a new gearbox would be down to wear & tear, whereas a 2004 needing a new axle housing would be un-reliable.

Right.

both polls sticky for a few weeks.

Hawk, i took out your post on the other thread to keep the posts in line with the poll. it should all make more sense now.

If we get more suggestions for polls we will do them when these close.

Lokie.

I suspect that you have bacteria build up from residual condensation in the
air system pipery (Smells like old dead fish).

Good preventive measure after using the system is to switch it on to Full Hot
& run it for 4 or 5 minutes to dry everything out.

Curing the smell (contamination) can be achieved by spraying anti bacteriarcide into the system air intake.

If you are not DIY versed your local automotive air conditioning firm will fix it for you.

Looks like pre 96 have a much higher satisfaction rate than post. From the looks of things more people are happy with their Mercs than unhappy with them but the gap gets a lot closer post 96.

What is of deep concern is the later models...

...I dont think too many people with newer Mercs will be into forums unless they are regulars, so perhaps not a very good indicator as to the real picture, but worrying all the same.

In the states on the forums there, they estimate that the MB owners using forums is under 1% and even the 1% are more just enthusiastic about the mark. the poll I saw there shows 03-04 is being bad years.
