Mercs and generic terms.

hi everyone, i was in a pub last week and many of the punters are petrol heads. it was interesting that the slang or abreviation for the mercedes benz motor car is fully recognised by the "merc" reference.

somone said they had a "beamer", i knew what that car was, a BMW, but one guy said what kind of boat is that?

from history we know the robbers had more "jags" than the cops, but the car did acheive the well known gineric reference. not many cars acheive this, but it is the other side of the coin from people who say they would sooner be seen climbing off the back of a sheep than getting out of a skoda.( pre-vw).

i know cars don't make people, and i know perception rules the world, but i like the engineering of my merc. machine, even if it was called a "gunzbuggie". all be it the reference would not go down well in the pub.herbiemercman.

My friends call my car the N*zi wagon but I still like it as its a nice car.

Again your not far off the mark as major BMW shareholder Gunther Quandt was a leading nazi leading to the awarding of numerous contracts and his first wife married the propaganda genius Dr Joseph Goebbels.

Bavaria and most of southern Germany and Austria is predominately Roman Catholic and was the cradle of national socialism and a large part of the nazi leadership was Roman Catholic so his BMW has indeed more of a "Nazi" history.
